Russia's Gazprom opens its pipelines to Lukoil

04 march 2011, 22:33
Gazprom said Friday it will buy natural gas from Russia's largest private oil firm Lukoil under a deal that follows Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's strong criticism of its restrictive pipeline policy, AFP reports.

The two companies said in separate statements that the agreement covers western Siberian and north Caspian Sea purchases for 2012-2016.

Lukoil said it will supply Gazprom 8.35 billion cubic metre of gas next year from Bolshekhetskaya field in Yamalo-Nenets in northwestern Siberia.

The agreement was announced one month after Putin lashed Gazprom failing to share its natural gas pipelines with independent producers.

Putin accused the state-controlled giant of inefficiency and warned that he was prepared to amend a law granting Gazprom monopoly control of Russia's natural gas pipelines if it failed to loosen its access policy.
