Nomad SUVs manufactured in Kazakhstan will be exported to the Russian market not directly, but through SsangYong Motor Company, Tengrinews reports.
SsangYong Motor Company will be purchasing Nomads in Kazakhstan and then selling them in Russia. This is done to convince the Russian customers of the high quality and fair pricing of the cars through the car company that has already earned some trust in Russia.
On the other hand this seems to be the only way for these cars knocked down in Kazakhstan to get to the Russian market. SsangYong Motor Company holds the exclusive license to SsangYong Actyon trademark in Russia. And a year ago, before the Kostanay-based plant knowing down the cars and SsangYong reached this agreement, the official representative of SsangYong Motor Company in Russia even said that the Nomads would not see the Russian market.
The Kazakhstani manufacturer Agromash Holding is assembling the cars at is plant in Kostanay. It receives complete knockdown kits (CKD) of Nomad SUVs designed by the SsangYong Motor Company. Nomad SUV is an upgraded version of SsangYong Actyon that was redesigned to better meet the needs of the local drivers.
In terms of export, even without the licensing problems, Kazakhstan is facing certain obstacles in its attempts to start exporting cars to Russia through the Customs Union system.
“With the Customs Union in place, Russia has been the most promising market. However, Russian-made cars account for 55% of the Kazakhstan market. Kazakhstan-made cars haven’t tapped into the Russian market yet,” Oleg Alferov, Director of Qncepto Consultancy, said earlier.
