KazTemirTrans and Federal Freight Company (Russia) signed a memorandum of cooperation in joint use of freight rolling stock, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of KazTemirTrans. “The memorandum of cooperation between KazTemirTrans and Federal Freight Company (FFC) was signed during the visit of the management of Federal Freight Company to Kazakhstan. According to the document, the parties agreed on a joint effective use of the freight rolling stock at the territory of Russia and Kazakhstan, holding mutual consultations, information exchange during exploitation of the freight wagons and arranging current uncoupling repair at the territory of both countries,” the press-service writes. According to the companies, the document was signed by president of KazTemirTrans Kanat Almagambetov and Director General of the Federal Freight Company Vitaliy Yevdokimenko. “Russian operators are actively participating in Kazakhstan market, including FFC that has the rolling stock of around 170 thousand wagons. However, the growing competition requires more effective measures helping implementation of long-term joint projects,” FFC Director General Vitaliy Yevdokimenko said at the ceremony of signing of the memorandum. According to the parties, signing of the memorandum will take the companies to a higher and closer level of cooperation and will help maintaining technological unity and competitiveness of both countries' railroad transport and will also boost interaction within the Common Economic Space. In the years of high grain harvest Kazakhstan faced severe shortages of wagons for grain export. The Agriculture Ministry suggested establishing a joint company with the Food Corporation and increasing the number of wagons by buying them from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. Kazakhstan's national railway operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy announced that it will produce 4 thousand car sets per year. According to Vice-President for Procurement of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Yerik Sultanov, heavy car casting is going to be launched at Parkhomenko plant in Karaganda, as well as at the plants in Pavlodar and Temirtau, thus brining the annual production of car casting to 16.5 thousand car sets.
