Kazakh-Chinese company AktobeMunaiGas owes more than 250 million tenge ($1.6 million) to its Kazakhstan staff, Tengrinews reports.

On November 28 a Kazakhstan court ordered "Chinese companies Vostok Neft JSC and Great Wall JCS (that are AktobeMunaiGas' subsidiaries) to pay ecological (risk) allowances to all their 356 employees".

This means that each of the employees will receive more than 700 thousand tenge ($4,500). The employes whose rights were violated by these companies are mainly natives of Shalkar, Baiganin, Temirtau and Mugaldzhar regions.

According to the Head of the First Prosecutor's Office of Aktobe Oblast Maratbek Mirzamuratov, the ecological allowances are supposed to be paid to the employees who work in an ecological disaster zone (such zones are listed in the Kazakhstan legislation). The Aral Sea region in Kazakhstan is one of such zones. All the companies operating in the zones are supposed to observe these rules.

Based on Kazakhstan's social protection legislation, the ecological allowance makes 30% of an employee's wages, besides, such employees are supposed to get 9 additional vacation days year and other benefits.
