ArcelorMittal Temirtau fined for environmental damages

ArcelorMittal Temirtau and Central Asia Cement have been fined over 57 million tenge ($380 thousand) for ecology damage, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Temirtau prosecution office. According to the authority, these companies exceeded the emissions limits by 16.8 million tenge ($112 thousand) in the last quarter of 2011. In this relation the companies were fined 53.8 million tenge ($359 thousand). Besides, ArcelorMittal Temirtau and Central Asia Cement were brought to administrative liability and payment of 3.7 million tenge ($24.5 thousand) of fines. ArcelorMittal Temirtau is part of the international steel-casting concern ArcelorMittal and is the biggest mining and metallurgic company of Kazakhstan. The company has a metallurgical complex in Temirtau, 8 coal pits in Karaganda oblast and 4 iron ore mines in Karaganda, Akmola and Kostanai oblasts.
