The famour Italian director transferred Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida from Teatro alla Scala to the Astana Opera stage. The opera will premier on the stage of the Kazakhstani theatre on November 19 and continue till November 22. Zeffirelli himself considers the opera to be the best work in the history of Milan’s theatre. He hopes that Aida will be as successful in the new Kazakhstani theatre as at home in Italy.
The Florence native Zeffirelli, 91, is the winner of the BAFTA, five times the David di Donatello Award and twice the Emmy Award. Zeffirelli began his career as an actor but later became a director. He is best known for Romeo and Juliet, the Taming of the Shrew with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Jesus of Nazareth, La Traviata and many others. Zeffirelli is noted for his distinct dynamic style.
