A solo concert of world renowned Armenian bass opera singer Barseg Tumanyan will take place in the chamber hall of Astana Opera, a Tengrinews correspondent reports. The artist will perform on 16 January.

"The audience will experience a mix of emotions, from joyful to contemplative. There will be tragic, lyrical, love, philosophical, and even demonic works performed. The selected program reveals the inner world of the artist. The variety of genres speaks of him as a very versatile performer with great creative abilities,” said the accompanist of Astana Opera Dolores Umbetaliyeva.

Tumanyan was first noticed internationally after his performance at a gala concert for the victims of the Armenian Earthquake in January 1989, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. He since performed in various roles in leading opera houses around the world.

In Paris the bass debuted in the role of Mephistopheles in Gounod’s Faust and later performed in the lead role in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov at the Munich State Opera. He also sung the role of Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen in Hamburg, Vienna, the Bastille Opera in Paris and Covent Garden in London.

The Armenian vocalist performed in Montreal, Toronto, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and St.Petersburg. Tumanyan’s concerts in China, Japan and Australia were also successful.

Connoisseurs of classical opera music in Kazakhstan now have a chance to visit Tumanyan’s solo concert in Astana Opera, which he joined in summer last year.

"This concert is a kind of musical 'bouquet,' a collection of works by world classics such as Handel, Schubert, Mozart, Verdi, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, as well as works by contemporary American composers," Tumanyan promised.
