One of the leading symphony orchestras in Russia, Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Valeriy Gergiev and a world-renowned Russian pianist Denis Matsuev will perform in Astana Opera on April 24, Tengrinews reports. Valeriy Gergiev and the orchestra will arrive in Astana on a special train from Barnaul and the next day, April 25, they will perform in Magnitogorsk.

Astana residents will be able to enjoy the performance of brilliant Russian musicians at the gala concert, which will be held as a part of the Fourteenth Moscow Easter Festival that has been lasting from April 12 through May 9 under the aegis of the Moscow City municipal authorities, the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Ministry of Defence.

Astana is the only Kazakhstan’s city, where the festival will open its doors, along with 27 cities across Russia.

The gala concert will commemorate two very important dates - the 70th anniversary of the Victory and the 175th anniversary of the birth of a great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

The program of the concert will feature Tchaikovsky’s Concerto № 1 for Piano and Orchestra, which will be performed by the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valeriy Gergiev and Denis Matsuev, who will play the piano part.

In addition, the grand opening ceremony of the III International Classical Music Festival and Astana Piano Passion contest among young pianists will be held as a part of the concert. Astana Piano Passion has been held in Kazakhstan for three years in a row and over this period the organizing committee has received around 400 applications from 45 countries around the world.

Winners of previous year’s contest Botac Alexandru-Cadmiel from Romania and Sanzharali Kopbayev from Kazakhstan will also perform on the stage of Astana Opera.

Director of Astana Opera theatre Toleubek Alpiyev said that the visit of the distinguished guests would be a huge celebration not only for the theatre itself, but also for all the residents and guests of Kazakhstan’s capital Astana. “Such kind of concerts serve a big cultural and educational function,” Alpiyev said.

The concert will start at 7 p.m. in Astana Opera House located on Kunayev street, at the crossing with Turan avenue.

The tickets can be purchased online via the official website of the theater. The price starts at 500 tenge ($2.69).
