The 6th French Cinema Today festival opens in Almaty on April 23, Tengrinews reports.
The film festival traditionally introduces new French films to Kazakhstani cinemagoers.
“In many ways, thanks to the festival French films have become an integral part of Kazakhstani cinema program. Thanks to the festival, we meet French film professionals, share experience, exchange information and introduce them to the Kazakh culture. At the same time, we become more open to the world,” the organizers of the festival said.
This year, French Cinema Today brings Benoît Jacquot’s Three Hearts (3 couers), Riad Sattouf’s Jacky au royaume des filles, Les yeux jaunes des crocodiles by Cecil Telerman, In the Courtyard (Dans la Cour) by Pierre Salvadori, Olivier Assayas’ Clouds of Sils Maria and Elle L’adore by Jeanne Herry.
Stars of French cinematography Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche play in four out of six films to be screened at the festival.
Traditionally, Kazakhstani cinemagoers will also see the short film program Noch Korotkogo Metra, which brings 19 shorts.
The French Cinema Today takes place from April 23 to 26 at Arman movie theatre.
Tickets are available at the theatre box office and online for $5 (1000 KZT). Arman movie theatre is situated at Dostyk Avenue 104 (crossing of Abay street).
