Introduction of Euro-3 ecological standard in Kazakhstan will have no effect on the car prices, Liter writes.

The newspaper states that the limitation applies only to import, not use of the vehicles. Besides, the cars not complying with Euro-2 standards were manufactured before 1995, i.e. these are fairly old cars by now, so there is not going to be a price spike.

Speaking of the standards, the newspaper brings up the example of Russia, where Euro-2 and Euro-3 standards are already in effect and Euro-4 is going to be introduced in 2014. “According to the experts, the fuel quality in Kazakhstan hardly reaches Euro-2, because modernizing of the existing oil refineries is a quite complicated endeavor. However Kazakhstan intends to switch to new fuel standards Euro-4, Euro-5 by 2016 skipping Euro-3,” the newspaper writes.

Ecological standard Euro-3 for imported cars was introduced in Kazakhstan on January 1, 2013. Implementation of these measures is necessary for prevention of inflow of cars with long operating life and poor ecological characteristics.
