The first book of Kazakhstan comics has been made in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the project’s manager Orazkhan Zhakup. The book will include ten stories in comics. The authors include both professionals who devoted their life to drawing and amateur artists some of whom tried themselves in this genre for the first time. “We have been carrying the idea of creating the almanac since December 2010, but the opportunity to make it appeared just recently when a good marketing expert joined our team. Comics are not very popular in our country. But for example in Russia the works of Kazakhstan artists evoke a wide response. I personally think that we have a good chance to develop this genre in Kazakhstan,” Orazkhan Zhakup said. The majority of works were collected after the exhibition of Kazakhstan comics on April 3. The priority was given to the comics with original heroes which can be called Kazakhstan heroes. For example, The Forgotten legend comics uses the atmosphere of Kazakh steppes. Main characters Kadyr and Zhadyra are children of conflicting families who run away from homes in search for happiness. Drawing the comics, the author wanted to rely on these typically Kazakh characters without making them based on their foreign analogues. However, the almanac also has well-known characters like the Alien from James Cameron’s Alien movie. In Alice in Zombieland the authors placed the classical character of Lewis Carroll into the atmosphere of Resident Evil horror movie. Comics have different styles. Some of them are made in manga style (type of Japanese visual arts), other are surrealistic. As for the subject creation process, every author has his own approach. “I rarely know myself how the story is going to finish when I start drawing. It sometimes happens that the comics starts with the point that grows like a snow ball: characters get new features and the story gets new turns,” artist Yevgeniy Yakovlev said. The first issue of the almanac has already been printed in 500 copies. If the sales are successful, the number of copies will be increased. The authors are currently negotiations with a Russian publishing office. The book may also appear in book stores of the CIS countries. Official presentation of the almanac is scheduled for September 3 and will be held in Zhurgenov Arts Academy (at 127 Panfilov street) at 3:00 p.m. Heroes of Kazakhstan legends are main characters of this comics Some stories seem wierd... Magicians and black crows often become comics characters Comics with the Alien Manga girls can easily fix their bikes Surrealism combines well with comics Frankenstein is one of characters as well Romance is a frequenter in comics Humor can be black Orc looks good in a baseball cap Cover of the first Kazakhstan comics almanac
