Louvre masterpieces exhibited in Almaty

Masterpieces from Louvre, Versailles and D’Orsay Museum have been brought to Almaty Kasteyev Arts Museum (30a Satpayev Str., next to Vesnovka River), Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Channel 7. The exhibition of the masterpieces from the best world art galleries will finish on August 5. French museums for the first time have taken more than 400 world masterpieces, including pictures, engravings, sculptures and tapestries from Louvre’s, Versailles’, Centre’s Pompidou and National Library’s collections out of the country. More than 40 museums have brought their artworks to Almaty. The city authorities have been arranging this exhibition for more than a year with direct involvement of Dariga Nazarbayeva and former French Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterrand. “The mission of Culture and Kindness is getting a special importance during the crisis, wars and conflicts that the world is enduring at present. We could learn about each other better through arts. Kazakhstan citizens will learn about France, its nation, traditions, tastes better through these artworks, engravings and frescoes,” Mitterand said. Approximate cost of the collection that is exhibited in Almaty is 20 million euro. Security of the museum has been enhanced. Full-time video surveillance is in place as well as additional police forces.
