Young Kazakshtani writer Ilya Odegov has been long-listed for the International Literary competition Russian Award, Tengrinews reports citing the official website of the award.

Ilya Odegov’s Timur and his summer was nominated for the Flash fiction category along with 12 other writers from Germany, Finland, Azerbaijan, the USA and Ukraine.

The short story touches upon the essence of growing up and the struggle to make meaning of changes happening in adolescence. 12 y.o Timur experiences his first moments of sexual awakening along with trying on a role of the patriarch of the family as he helps his grandmother with on her small farm. Odegov’s choice of a short story genre reflects the brevity of the actual experience of growing up.

He is the winner of Contemporary Kazakhstani Novel (2003), a British literary competition Poetry On (2003) and Theatre seeks an author (2003).
