Kazakhstan is planning to set salaries ceilings industry-wise, Tengrinews reports citing the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Kazakhstan Tamara Duisenova. "First this we are going to do is set ceilings on salaries industry-wise," Duisenova said at the presentation of the law draft of Trade Unions in the Majilis (the Lower Chamber of the Kazakhstan Parliament). This is expected to help root out disproportions in the salaries of people employed in the same industry. According to Duisenova, the Ministry has studied the international experience before making this proposal. "As you know, the government currently regulates only the minimum salary and other minimum standards in labor relations, and leaves it to the private sector to define the payment rate for itself. We have studied the international experience and found that they specify a range for remuneration of labor for every industry," the Minister said. They have a table that clearly specifies that a salary of, for example, a welder can range from 1,000 to 5,000 standard units. And specifies the amount and quality of work done by the welder earning 1,000 standard units and those that he is supposed to produce to be earning 5 000 standard units, she explained.
