Nazarbayev congratulates Kazakhstan residents on Easter

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has congratulated the country’s Orthodox Christians on the Easter that will be celebrated tomorrow, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s press-service. “I sincerely congratulate all the Orthodox Christians on the holy and gracious holiday of the Easter! All the citizens of our multi-confessional country, regardless of their faith and ethnic origin, share the joy of this important religious holiday uniting in the celebratory spirit,” the President said. According to Nazarbayev, such holidays are getting a new meaning: moral education, development of charity, inoculation of humanism ideas and enhancement of social stability. “Religious tolerance, good-neighborly relations and care about people have been firmly established among the moral guides of the modern Kazakhstan society. The Orthodox religious community is making a significant contribution into enhancement of peace and accord. May your homes be filled with happiness, love and prosperity!” the President declared. The Orthodox Easter is celebrated around the world on May 5 this year. Orthodox Christianity is the second biggest religious confession in Kazakhstan after Islam. The total number of Orthodox Christians is estimated at around 5 million people or 30% of the country’s population.
