Families of Zhanaozen victims will receive 1 million tenge each

“Families of the victims of Zhanaozen clashes will be paid one million tenge ($6,700) each and those who were injured will received 500 thousand tenge,” Khabar TV-channel reports citing the head of the government commission on Zhanaozen Umirzak Shukeyev. Besides, the government commission will work with entrepreneurs who suffered from the clashes to ensure they have access to cheap loans in the banks and via Damu Fund. “We will make the loans as cheap as possible. This is a minimum of 7 percent,” the channel cites the official. According to Khabar, Zhanaozen town administration building will be restored and the burnt down building of Aru-Ana hotel will be demolished and re-built. Construction of other buildings and facilities damaged by the fire will start shortly. The oil-producing city Zhanaozen in Mangistau oblast faced a wave of public unrest on December 16. The death toll stands at 16. One person died in the clashes in Shetpe village on December 17. The investigation is under way. Curfew restriction has been declared in Zhanaozen. Over 40 facilities, including town administration, banks, companies, hotels, cars and shops were damaged during the clashes. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported than restoration of all the damaged facilities required around 2 million tenge ($13.6 million). The government commission was created for restoration of Zhanaozen and headed by Umirzak Shukeyev, who was later appointed head of Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund. All facilities, shops and hospitals are currently functioning in Zhanaozen. There are no problems with food. Umirzak Shukeyev promised Zhanaozen residents that the town will be improving and growing.
