Striking Zhanaozen workers offered jobs in mining sector

People legally fired from Ozenmunaigas, Karazhanbasmunai and its contractors ArgymakTransService and TulparMunaiService were offered jobs in major companies around Kazakhstan, mainly in mining and oil and gas sectors, or in service companies. The statement was made at the briefing of the official representative of the government commission on Zhanaozen, adviser to Mangistau oblast Governor on social-political issues Zhanna Oishybayeva, press-service of Mangistau oblast Governor states. The citizens who agree to work in other regions of the country, may be reimbursed for transportation costs and provided accommodation in line with the Employment-2020 state-run program. Offices for acceptance and registration of the residents’ application were opened in employment centers in Zhanaozen and Aktau. Vice-Minister of Labor and Social Protection Birzhan Nurymbetov and head of oblast department of employment and social programs Gulmira Kalmuratova will be reviewing the applications. Besides, the residents willing to work in other regions, as well as other fired workers, are offered to take part in paid works on restoration of Zhanaozen. The Governor’s press-service also confirmed that information on unrest at Zhetybai field was incorrect. “Kalamkas and Zhetybai fields are working normally, the employees are at work, 90 percent of special vehicles are functioning. Contractor companies OilServiceCompany and OilTransCorporation operating at the fields have also started working,” the press-release states. Besides, sub-commission on Ozenmunaigas activities took measures to ensure uninterrupted operation of this company. “All this is done to support safe operation mode of the facilities and the company’s activities,” the press-service states. “Currently the number of personnel working in the morning shift of OzenMunaiGas has increased to 81 percent, thanks to the measures taken.”
