Well preserved mammoth tusks discovered near Karaganda

Mammoth tusks have been discovered at the magnesium limestone quarry nera Zhenis village of Karaganda Oblast in central Kazakhstan. The remnants of an ancient animal were found on the depth of 6 meters. According to a local archaeologist Victor Vorfolomeyev, the length of the tusks is 2.1 and 1.8 meters. The tusks belonged to a grown mammoth that possibly was around 3 meters tall. The tusks are in a good condition. At the moment, local archaeologists are examining the discovery. In summer, the archaeologists plan to organize a field trip to the site. They hope to find a ancient encampment of Palaeolithic hunters near they place where the tusks were discovered.
