Sukhoi Su-27 military aircraft crashed in Almaty Oblast on Tuesday evening, September 23, at around 9 p.m. local time. Both of the pilots on board were killed in the crash, but parts of their bodies were found only a day later. Eyewitnesses claim the fighter jet exploded in the air, however officials say time is needed for a thorough investigation, before any conclusions can be made. The impact was so strong that the cockpit went five meters deep into the soil. Fragments of the fighter aircraft were scattered 500 meters around the crash site. A special commission has been established to investigate the causes of the accident. The crash site has been cordoned off by the military.
