Diyas and Yi-Fan Xu from China defeated an American tennis player Lauren Davis and Renata Voroca from the Czech Republic. Their next opponents in the third round are yet unknown.
In the first round of the Women’s Singles, Diyas defeated Ukranian Lesia Tsurenko 6:1, 6:2. In the second round, the Kazakh tennis player defeated 15 y.o Catherina Bellis from the U.S. Diyas will face Ekaterina Makarova from Russia in the third round.
Diyas is the only remaining Kazakh tennis player in the US Open. Alexander Nedovesov, Yaroslava Shvedova, Michael Kukushkin and Andrei Golubev were defeated in the pervious rounds.
The 20 y.o. Kazakh tennis player is now ranked 48 in the WTA. She is the first native Kazakh player to make it into the WTA Top-50. Earlier, only naturalized athletes - Yaroslava Shvedova, Galina Voskoboeva and Ksenia Pervak (all of them from Russia) – were able to enter the list. Pervak is no longer playing for Kazakhstan.
