Women's tennis team from Kazakhstan wins bronze at Asian Games, men triumphant at finals

Kazakhstani tennis players Yaroslava Shvedova, Yulia Putintseva and Kamila Kerimbayeva have won bronze at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. Kazakhstan women’s tennis team became third in the team standing.

In the semifinals, the Kazakhstanis were knocked out by the team from Taipei 1:2.

Kazakhstani Yulia Putintseva lost to Chang Yong Yan in two sets 4:6, 1:6 and Yaroslava Shvedova had to save the situation in her game against the first racket of the Taipei team Hsieh Su-Wei. Shvedova won the first set 6:3. A persistent struggle in the second set resulted in a tiebreak where Shvedova again proved her superiority 7:6.

The team score was evened and everything had to be decided in the doubles, where Shvedova and Putintseva played against Hsieh Su-Wei and Chang Hao-chin. The duo from Taipei was won 6:2, 6:0.

As for the men’s team competitions in tennis, Kazakhstanis Alexander Nedovesov, Andrey Golubev and Mikhail Kukushkin won Kazakhstan’s sixth gold in the Asian Games after triumphing over the Chinese 2:0.

Nedovesov won 6:4, 6:0, but Kukushkin had a tougher match, which he nevertheless won 6:0, 3:6, 6: 2.

After that Andrey Golubev did not have to enter the court. He was supposed to play in a pair with Alexander Nedovesov but the two wins of his colleagues were enough to earn the team their well-deserved gold.
