President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has congratulated Gennady Golovkin on his victory over Martin Murray, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the President.

On February 21, Golovkin of Kazakhstan defended his WBA (Super), IBO and WBC Interim middleweight titles in Monte Carlo against Martin Murray from the UK.

In a letter, Nazarbayev said that Golovkin’s success was “a result of ambition, relentless work and high mastery”. The President of Kazakhstan added that these qualities made Golovkin one of the strongest boxers in the world.

“Kazakhstanis rejoice in your every achievement. We are confident that your following fights will bring fame to our sports and serve to advance boxing (in Kazakhstan) through the prime example that you are giving to the younger generations,” Nazarbayev wrote in the letter.

Nazarbayev wished Golovkin excellent health and new victories.

Gennady Golovkin (32-0, KO 29) was born Karaganda, Kazakhstan on April 8, 1982. In 2004, Golovkin represented Kazakhstan at the Summer Olympics in Athens where he won the silver medal in the middleweight division. Golovkin is of Russian and Korean descent, but he likes to call himself a Kazakh. Currently, the 32 y.o. lives and trains in California where he brought his wife and son.

His next fight is scheduled to April and will most likely take place in the USA.
