Gennady Golovkin has been denied the Super Champion title by the Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. Golovkin’s application for the “super” champion status was denied because he had already been granted a special permission for a fight, which is to take place right before his mandatory commitment. Meanwhile, Golovkin retains his “regular” WBA champion status. On February 1, 2014 the boxer is defending his “regular” WBA belt against Ghanaian Osunamu Adama in Monaco. Gennady Golovkin and Beibut Shumenov have brought Kazakhstan to the 8th place in the global rating by the number of champions in all weight categories. He was also named the Fighter of the Year 2013 by Boxing 101 sports portal. Even if Golovkin was not able to become “super” this year he has great chances next year.
