WBA (Super) and IBO middleweight champ Gennady Golovkin from Kazakhstan might face Marco Antonio Rubio sometime in the Fall, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
34 y.o. Rubio (59-6-1, KO 51) wrote in his Twitter that his fight against Golovkin (30-0, KO 27) will take place on October 18 in Los Angeles. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has not confirmed the information yet.
The fight against Rubio will be Golovkin’s 31st fight. Earlier in July, Golovkin TKOed Australian boxer Daniel Geale in the 3rd round while defending his championship title. Rubio’s last fight took place in April when the Mexican boxer KOed Domenico Spada in the 10th round of a 12 round fight. Rubio then won an interim WBC middleweight title. He postponed a mandatory fight against Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs), WBC middleweight champion so that the Puerto Rican boxer could face Sergio Martinez.
Last week, despite talks about fighting GGG, an Australian boxer Sam Soliman (44-11, KOs 18) refused to fight the Kazakh boxer. Soliman will face Jermain Taylor (32-4, KOs 20) on October 10 in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
