Kazakhstanis stay in Top-5 after five stages of Africa Eco Race-2015

Two Kazakhstani crews racing in Africa Eco Race-2015, Kanat Shagirov and Aleksandr Moroz (Toyota Hilux Overdrive) and Yuri Sazonov and Arslan Sakhimov (Hummer H3) have retained their positions in the Top-5 at the end of the fifth stage that took place on January 3, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

The crew of Sazonov - Sakhimov encountered some problems during the race from As Sakn to Dakhla, but the crew Shagirov – Moroz came to their aid. As a result, both Kazakhstani crew were able to stay in the Top-5.

The crew of Sazonov - Sakhimov encountered some problems during the race from As Sakn to Dakhla, but the crew Shagirov – Moroz came to their aid. As a result, both Kazakhstani crew were able to stay in the Top-5.

Belgian crew of Jacques Loomans and Frits Driesmans (Toyota Hilux Overdrive, 200th start number) leads the race among SUVs and trucks. Shagirov – Moroz are on the third place in the group and fourth in the general classification 32 minutes and 32 seconds behind the leaders. Sazonov - Sakhimov occupy the fourth place in the group T1 and the fifth in the overall standing, 51 minutes and 35 seconds behind the leader.

The winner of the fifth special stage, which took place on the territory of Morocco, was Veb Racing crew piloted by a Russian driver Anton Grigorov and a Latvian navigator Maris Saukans (OSC, 212th starting number). The winning time was 2 hours 1 minute and 12 seconds.

At this stage, SUV crew of Andrey Cherednikov and Dmitry Tsyro (Hummer H3, 218th starting number) were the best among Kazakhstani teams. Racing for the team Off Road Kazakhstan, they came to finish second in the group T1 (modified and improved SUVs) and third in the "absolute" (SUVs and trucks). Marat Abykayev and Andrey Chipenko (Nissan Patrol, 217th start number), who also race for the team Off Road Kazakhstan, finished fourth in the group T2 (serial SUV models) and 24th in the "absolute".

Rally marathon Africa Eco Race-2015 started on December 28, 2014, and finishes on January 11, 2015 at the Rose Lake in Dakar (Senegal). Racers need to overcome 12 stages on the territory of Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, with the total length of 6337 kilometers, of which 3430 kilometers are special stages.
