Kazakh athlete Yuliya Galysheva has won the gold medal in dual moguls competition of Freestyle Skiing World Cup held in Ruka, Finland on December 13, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Galysheva confidently reached the semifinals where she faced Vancouver Olympic Champion and bronze prizewinner of 2014 Sochi Olympics Hannah Kearney from the United States. After a tough race, Galysheva prevailed over the American athlete and advanced into the finals.

In the finals, the 22-years-old Kazakh athlete defeated the silver prizewinner of Sochi Olympics and reigning dual moguls world champion Chloe Dufour-Lapointe from Canada.

As a result, Galysheva came first followed by Chloe Dufour-Lapointe and Hannah Kearney. Throughout the competition, the Kazakh athlete skied firmly and confidently, while minor mistakes of Kearney and Dufour-Lapointe cost them their victories.

“It was my first start since the Olympic Games (in Russian Sochi), and I was prepared. But I did not expect such a final, because I thought I would compete with Hannah in the finals,” Galysheva said.

In the women’s section of the event, Galysheva was the only representative of Kazakhstan, while the men’s team of Kazakhstan was represented by Dmitry Reyherd who finished 19th, Paul Kolmakov who came 27th, and Dmitry Barmashov who ended up in the 34th place.

Yuliya Galysheva has been competing at the international tournaments since March 2006. She debuted at the Europa Cup stage in the Russian Saint-Petersburg. She was 21st in mogul and 18th in dual moguls then.

Galysheva got her first World Cup victory at the Meribel when she came ahead of Hannah Kearney in the final of dual moguls. In 2011, she won gold medals at the 2011 Asian Winter Games in moguls and dual moguls. In 2011, she also won in the Europa Cup stage in Jyväskylä. Next year, she became the World Champion among juniors in moguls and won the silver medal in dual moguls at the Italian Valmalenco.

However, earlier this year Galysheva announced her decision to quit her professional skiing career after the Sochi Olympics. The skier claimed that she was judged unfairly ion Russia and she had no desire to continue competing. At the Sochi Olympics, Galysheva took the 7th place. The score she was given raised a wave of questions to the jury. But in late October Galysheva changed her mind and said she would continue competing.
