Kazakh judokas win seven medals at Judo Grand Prix in Astana

Kazakhstan’s national judo team has won seven medals in total at the Judo Grand Prix held in Astana on October 10-12, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. Kazakh athletes earned two gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Asian Games winner Yeldos Smetov, who competed the Men’s -60 kilos, took down former world silver medallist Mongolian Amartuvshin Dashdavaa with ippon. 

World Champion of 2009, leader of Kazakhstan’s national team Maxim Rakov in the Men's -100 kilos clinched the gold medal defeating Dimitri Peters from Germany.

Zhansai Smagulov in the Men's -66 kilos hauled silver medal at the 66-kg weight category losing to Junior World Champion Japanese Yuuki Hashiguchi.

Another silver medal was earned by Asset Akhmetzhanov in the Men's -90 kilos, who was defeated by Tashkent Grand Prix bronze medallist Komronshoh Ustopiriyon from Tajikistan.

Baku Grand Slam silver medallist Askhat Telmanov, who competed in the Men's -60 kilos, brought a bronze medal winning over Russian Dmitriy Kulikov with ippon.

Another bronze medal was earned by Sindelfingen European Cup bronze medallist Aziz Kalkamanuly in the Men's -81 kilos, who overcame Srdan Mrvaljevic from Montenegro.

Kazakh judoka Zarina Abdrassulova earned bronze in the Women's +78 kilos winning seven-time Asian Championships medallist Gulzhan Issanova from Kazakhstan.

As a result, Kazakhstan came first in the team ranking followed by Hungary and Germany.
