HBO predicts dynamite fight between Golovkin and Rubio

Predictions on the upcoming Golovkin-Rubio fights vary, but one thing is clear, it will be an explosive clash of two hard punchers on October 18 in California.

Harold Lederman, HBO Boxing unofficial scorer commented on the middleweight title unifying fight between Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KO) and Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KO).

“I am really looking forward to October 18 at Stub Hub Center, California. Gennady Golovkin is very close to being a boxing super star. Another sensational win can make him number one or number two fighter in boxing. There is no question in that, he has never lost and never came close to losing. He keeps looking better, and better and better,” Lederman said.

Rubio proves to be a great opponent for Golovkin both in style and strength.

“Marco Antonio Rubio is a big puncher – 59 fights, 51 KOs. He can really punch. He is a good boxer. He is aggressive. A guy like Golovkin who is very strong and hard puncher, taking a great punch should make a dynamite fight. These are two guys who come to fight, (…) no running away,” Lederman continued.

“Basically, they have the same style. This is going to be a huge fight with lots of action, lots of punching. There is no way this fight goes to the distance. This fight is going to end in a knockout. Somebody is getting knocked out on October 18,” he concluded.

Rubio’s sparing partner Olexander Gvozdik noted that the Mexican boxer would be a good test for Golovkin. “I am waiting for he fight, it will be very interesting. I think, it will be a test for Golovkin. I sparred with Rubio. He has great experience. But, then, Golovkin is a pure insane power. It will be very interesting,” Gvozdik told ESNEWS.

The fight between Golovkin and Rubio is scheduled to October 18 at Stubhub Center in Carson, California. The unifying fight will be live in Kazakhstan on the early morning of October 19 due to the time difference on KazSport TV channel. In addition, Boicovsky Club and Rossia 2 TV channels, too, will be streaming the fight live.
