WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto has not decided on his opponent for the upcoming fight on December 13, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach is more than sure that the Puerto Rican champ will not face WBA (Super) and IBO champion Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan. “We’re going on December 13th. We’ve got a couple of opponents we’re looking at but nothing has been decided. I know Triple-G has been calling (Cotto) out, but he knows Triple-G brings nothing to the table because he has no pay-per-view audience. I think he’s marketed very bad by his promoters. Well, no one knows him in America, and he’s only fought once on HBO, and I never seen him fight before the other night,” Roach said.
“(Golovkin) is a good fighter, a good puncher, and guys that are hittable, I like. I think the avoid part is on his people’s behalf,” Cotto’s trainer added.
Golovkin defended his title in July against an Aussie former champion Daniel Geale by a TKO in the 3rd round. After crushing Geale, Golovkin said he wanted to fight Cotto. While a Golovkin-Cotto fight seems unlikely, GGG comes back to the ring on October 18. His next, 31st fight will take place in Los Angeles. Golovkin will possibly face Marco Antonio Rubio.
