WBA (Super) and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin from Kazakhstan might face Irish Matthew Macklin once again, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
The bout will become possible in case “a certain possible chain of events takes place”, Allboxing.ru wrote.
The result of the fight between Macklin, 32, and Jorge Sebastian Heiland, 27 scheduled on November 15 in Dublin will be one of such events. The winner will come closer to face the WBC International middleweight titleholder Miguel Cotto, 33.
The title unifying fight Golovkin-Rubio is scheduled to October 18. The winner gets the interim WBC title.
In case, Macklin wins the qualifying fight and Cotto gives up the title, then Golovkin after winning Rubio will become the full WBC champion. This could lead to a fight between Golovkin and Macklin.
Golovkin KOed the Irish boxer in the summer of 2013. Macklin hit the canvas after a powerful liver shot in the third round.
