Kazakhstan cyclist and Olympic champion Aleksandre Vinokourov is going to arrange races in three Kazakhstan cities, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Vesti.kz. “Perhaps it will be possible to organize special “Olympic” races in Almaty, Astana and Petropavlovsk prior to my birthday (Alexandre Vinokourov was born on September 16). Also I will try to arrange some master-classes for young cyclists,” the 38-y.o. athlete said at the press-conference in Almaty upon his arrival from the 2012 London Olympic Games. Vinokourov confirmed his intention to retire: “It would be the right time to retire after such a victory. I was told that Olympic gold is like an exclamation mark at the end of the professional career. I think I have done enough for cycling.” The cyclist was going to meet Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov in Astana after a short break and also Kazakhstan Cycling Federation president to discuss the team’s future plans. The athlete thanked his fans for their support and mentioned the high results of Kazakhstan athletes who participated at Olympics. “Thanks to everybody for their warm welcome and support that we could feel during the Olympic Games. Our country has achieved a huge success. It is the first time in the history of Kazakhstan when our athletes won such a big number of medals. I am proud to be the first athlete who won gold at these Olympics and it was excellent that other Kazakhstan Olympic athletes kept winning after me. Everybody was happy during the meeting with the President, we were welcomed like heroes. It will be difficult to achieve similar results at the next Olympics; however, I think that our athletes will do their best. I hope that we will bring up new champions in the four year period, cycling ones as well,” Vinokourov said.
