“I think, it is Cotto’s people want nothing to do with Gennady. They make all kinds of excuses; he is not big enough, he does not do enough market,” Sanchez said.

Earlier, Sanchez said that Golovkin wanted to fight Cotto to unify middleweight titles. Moreover, GGG’s trainer added that the Golovkin-Cotto fight would be something boxing fans would appreciate. “I do not think that it is as much as Cotto does not want to, but his people are making all kinds of excuses for him. Cotto has got 3 or 4 fights down the road. (…) Cotto is never going to fight Gennady, at least not right now. Only after 3 or 4 fights down the road when he exhausted all the other and made some money (…) But as of this year, it is not possible,” Sanchez said.

Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach does not see the Golovkin-Cotto fight as financially viable. “He’s [Golovkin] a good fighter, a good puncher, and guys that are hittable, I like. I think the avoid part is on his people’s behalf. He chose those opponents. He chose to fight opponents at the right time. He’s been well protected. But now he’s at a level where he can fight anybody in the world,” Roach said.

According to Roach, Golovkin’s promoters have to do a better job in promoting the fighter.

Golovkin’s next fight is scheduled to October 18. He will probably face Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio.
