Kazakhstan professional boxer Marina Volnova qualified for the London Olympic Games, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Vesti.kz. The International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland, admitted Volnova because she showed a good result in the Chinese World Championship. Kazakhstan 75-kilogram weight league boxer failed to gain an Olympic spot in the Chinese World Championship that was held in May this year. She yielded the victory to Russian Nadezhda Torlopova. Kazakhstan team coach Vadim Prissyazhnyuk commented later on that Volnova had been fighting with a knee injury and failed to do her best in the quarterfinals of the championship. “Volnova has got a bigger potential and she will be able to prove this,” the coach said. “When we came to China nobody told us that the spots were distributed continent-wise. I have realized this only when the quarterfinals fights kicked off. I was very disappointed because the Olympics is my dream. And now this dream has come true! My coach Berik Borambayevich Marzhiklayev has given me a phone call and congratulated on obtaining the spot. I haven’t realized it yet, emotions are overwhelming me. In general I know all my future rivals. I will think about my future rival in more details after I know her name after the drawing. At present I am working on the mistakes I have made at the Chinese World Championship. I am giving all my free time to physical exercises now,” Volnova said after she received the good news. Women boxing team was training in a sports camp at Issyk-Kul Lake until June 30. Their pre-Olympic training is being held in Astana, and then the athletes will head off to London.
