The opening ceremony of the 3rd International Kazakhstan President Cup Boxing Tournament took place in Baluan Sholak Sports Palace in Almaty on May 1, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Kazakhstan Boxing Federation. The tournament will finish on May 6. Boxers from Ukraine, India, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria, Tajikistan, Cuba, Turkmenistan, Syria and Sweden will take part in the competition along with two Kazakhstan national teams and Almaty Boxing Federation team this year. This is the last qualification event for boxers to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. “We have already assigned our boxers with the task to gain the maximum number of Olympic spots. This is the last tournament prior to the Olympics. We are hosting the Presidential Cup here, in Almaty, to make sure that more of our boxers have the opportunity to participate. The Olympics is our main goal and the Cup is a preparation for the Games. Our boxers will have an opportunity to participate in the matches they need to qualify,” Myrzagali Aitzhanov, Kazakhstan national team head coach, told Khabar TV channel.
