The Astana Arlans proved that they still dominate the ring and the Wolves “bite” is lethal in a fight against the Russian Boxing Team On November 23 in St Petersburg, Tengrinews reports referring to Vesti.kz. The Arlans passed their test against the Russians with 3:2. The first bout in the flyweight (-52kg) category gave an intriguing start to the night with a WSB debutant from Astana Arlans Olzhas Sattibayev and a double World Champion Russian Misha Aloyan entering the ring. As WSB observers noted, Sattibayev had a rough “baptizing” debut but certainly displayed great stamina against southpaw Aloyan. Although the young Arlan dominated the first round, Aloyan overtook the following rounds with confidence. Sattibayev didn't budge and followed his opponent fearlessly until the last round. The Russians took the first win (1:0) of the night but the public is going to keep an eye on Olzhas Sattibayev in future. In the second Lightweight bout (-60 kg), Samat Bashenov showed that he became the Captain of the Alfa Wolves for a reason. In the first round Bashenov was determined to even out the scores. His opponent Adlan Abdurashidov lost the first round to the Captain’s steady and clear tactics. The second round was full of clutches as “the Russian brought the fight to close range” and won the round, said a WSB reporter. In the third round it seemed that the coach found the right words for Bashenov as he was able to regain his agility and chip away at Abdurashidov. The crafty Captain of Astana Arlans won the experienced classy Russian boxer with tactical tenacity bringing the scores to 1:1. Another of Arlans debutants Meirim Nursultanov (-69kg) stood against an experienced Russian boxer Alexander Ivanov (2WP/1TKO) in the third bout of the “Group of Death” match. Nursultanov made use of his height and kept his opponent at a distance. “The power seemed to lie with the Kazakh boxer but the skill with Russian,” said WSB. The young Arlan’s power jabbed his way to the second win for Kazakh boxing team that night. But the Russians were not going to let go of the victory easily. This time it seemed, not only Arlans had “an ace in a hole” as the Russians' debutant Dmitriy Bivol knocked down Danabek Suzhanov (-81 kg) using a one two combination in the last 33 second of the first round. Southpaw Bivol classically set the score to 2:2 with a TKO. With the Super heavyweights (+91kg) rising to the ring the level of the intrigue also rose. The Russian Boxing Team brougt another WSB debutant Sergey Kuzmin, 26 against an experienced Croatian Arlan Filip Hrgovic, 21. Hrgovic not only overwhelmed Kuzmin with his strong built statue but more so with his 17 wins out of 18 fights. A WSB reporter wittily noted that it was “a match between a Croatian matador and a Russian bull”. The Croatian showed experience and fine tactics, while the heavy built Russian relied on raw power. Even though the Arlan Wolf’s stamina started wearing off after the third round under the pressure of the Russian Bull, Hrgovic took the win for his Arlans making the overall score of the night 3:2. The 2013 Champions Astana Arlans and the future “superpowers” Russian Boxing Team showcased a knock out match of the “Group of Death” leaving the spectators to want more. The Kazakh Wolves are still a hard nut to crack and the Russians have to work harder if they want to try on the crown of the Champions in 2014. The Astana Wolves have certainly locked their jaws on the Championship once again this season and did not seem to budge in either of their bouts. Earlier the Astana Arlans won the Baku Fires from Azerbaijan. We will witness their determination in the next fight against the Mexico Guerreros in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
