The second official training for sportsmen who will take part in the World Winter Fishing Championship in Kazakhstan was held on February 8. The competition will start on February 10 and will last for two days, Tengrinews.kz reports. American sportsmen said that it was quite difficult for them to fish without special electronic detectors. “We like being here so much! We are happy with all the facilities and the way the organizers treat us. But it is difficult to compete here! We are used to detect the fish with the help of electronic devices. However, they are banned from use according to the rules of the Championship. We have to be more attentive and smart here,” Mike Bedeker, the U.S team's fisherman said. American fisherman said that it was their first time in Kazakhstan. They had already visited Almaty and liked the city. They were surprised to see that all private residences were surrounded with high fences in Kazakhstan. American sportsmen had already competed with Kazakhstan fishermen in the U.S. Fishing Championship in 2010. Ukrainian sportsmen have experienced some difficulties as well. “I think that the fish aren't spread evenly throughout the lake. It is hard to show the skills. I mean the result will depend on drawing. If you get a zone rich with fish, you'll win, if you get an empty zone, you'll loose,” Dmitry Korzenkov, Ukrainian fisherman said. The sport winter fishing differs from nonprofessional one. Patience doesn't matter so much in sport fishing, because sportsmen need to move in their zones all the time drilling new holes in the ice to find more fish. A stereotype that all fishermen drink alcohol to get warm is not true. Igor Chimyakov, a member of International Fresh Water Federation, said that sportsmen just didn't have time to sit and drink alcohol. “They are allowed to warm themselves up with anything, as long as it doesn't disturb the others. Alcohol is not banned, but there is just no time for it. There are only three hours for fishing in one zone. And sportsmen are moving all around it without stoping. Generally fishermen don't drink alcohol,” Chimyakov said. Kazakhstan is hosting Winter Fishing World Championship at Kapshagay lake on February 6-12 for the first time. The strongest and most highly-awarded teams from ten countries have travel to Kazakhstan to compete in winter fishing with an ice jig (a sort of fishing lure). Teams from Ukraine (three-time world champion), Russia, Belarus, Latvia (three-time world champion), Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Finland, Poland and the U.S. will take part in the Championship.
