Participant of the international expedition to K2 will not be able to continue the ascent any time before August 1. Bad weather is preventing them from starting the fourth acclimatization ascent, according to Kazakh climber Maksut Zhumayev. “Today we have come from the Chinese camp to our base camp. Here it became very obvious that or take off is being postponed. The mountain above the second camp was covered in dense clouds. It can be seen from here that there is still a strong wind above seven-eight thousand meters,” Zhumayev said. The team of alpinists spent the last several days in the Chinese base camp. They rested their and learned aerial stunts. “Tommy brought a kit – this is a small paraglider that is controlled from the ground. It indeed looks like a large kite. Its span clearance is one and a half meters. It was very interesting, but I was making fun of it when the kite fell or was hard to control. I feel no urge to join paragliding.” The Kazakhstan alpinist told that all the foreign climbers enjoyed having campfires very much. “We had campfires every day and baked potatoes in the coals. For our friends this was a celebration every time. They all live in the developed countries and are not used to making fire. Because both in Europe and Argentina a special permit is required to make a fire. Here we don’t have to ask anyone of permission, so we mightily enjoyed making campfires. Our foreign friends have gathered had a lot of positive emotions, so as we have,” he said. The climbers will spend the nearest two days in the base camp. “We will be waiting for the weather forecasts that will let us advance to the slopes of Chogori.” The international expedition to K2 includes Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov from Kazakhstan, Gerlinda Kaltenbrunner from Austria, Ralf Dujmovits from Germany, Darek Zaluski from Poland and Tommy Heinrich from Argentina. Chogori is located in the Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
