Desktop computers capable of competing with Apple's iMac will be produced in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing the head of the project Nurzhan Bulegenov.

The project’s team came up with the idea to design their own device after they faced difficulties in finding a computer that could meet their needs. iMac was the best option by all criteria, but it was too expensive, while cheaper computers did not have the sufficient ergonomics.

The developers started with developing a design. Bulegenov did not deny that the design of their device was in many ways similar to Apple’s iMac.

The project’s team decided to create three versions of the computer that would differ only in functions and characteristics: Alpha, Beta and Gamma.

The top model Gamma, according to the head of the project, will have the capacities similar to those in an iMac - a 21-inch touch-screen, 2.7 GHz i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GT 720M graphics card and 1 terabyte hard drive. The price will be at around 150 thousand tenge (around $829), which is just a little over the production cost.

Design provided by the project's team.

The project’s leaders have an agreement to manufacture domestic computers at first in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. In future, they plan to move the production to Kazakhstan. Bulegenov said that with proper funding the project could be put on track in six months.
