Geneva is interested in Kazakhstan’s e-government

Kazakhstan took part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) hosted by Geneva, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the committee of information and archives of the Ministry of Culture and Information. At the forum Kazakhstan delegation took part in the exhibit for participating countries to demonstrate their achievements in the information society. Managers of Zerde National Information and Communication Group and National Information Technology company shared their experience in developing and launching the e-government. It is reported, that the interest to Kazakhstan results from the country’s dramatic rise in the UN e-government index ranking. According to the most recent ranking of 190 member countries, Kazakhstan together with Singapore was placed second with regards to the e-participation index. In the e-government improvement index Astana moved up from the 65th place in 2005 to the 38th this year. The Ministry of Culture and Information reports that there are over 2000 information services and 225 interactive and transactional services offered in Kazakhstan today as part of the e-government initiative. Approximately 25 thousand users a day visit eGov web portal. Electronic signatures have been provided to over 1 million people. The most popular e-services are considered to be the payment of fines, taxes, statements of no real estate, and allocations to pension funds. By the end of 2012 the launch of new services, including online application for ID re-issue, is planned. The transfer of key social services into electronic format will be completed by 60% in early 2013, and fully in 2014. In 2012-2014 new software for Mobile government will be developed for Android and iOS platforms as well.
