KazSat-2 delivered to Baikonur

KazSat-2 communications satellite has been delivered from Moscow to Baikonur on AN-124 plane, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. Currently the satellite is passing customs control. After a check it will be unloaded to railroad platform and moved to a cosmodrome pad where Kazakhstan satellite will be prepared for launch. KazSat 2 is a Kazakh communication satellite designed by Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center. It features 12 Ku-band transponders for fixed communications and 4 Ku-band transponders for TV-transmissions and is intended for telecast, fixed satellite communication and data transmission for Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The unit weighs 1,330 kg, its service life is 12 years. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that launch of the Kazakhstan’s satellite KazSat-2 was put off till July 10. The first Kazakhstan satellite KazSat-1 was launched on June 18, 2006 from Baikonur cosmodrome. On June 8, 2008 KazSat stopped working because of a failure in its digital computing system.
