Ukrainian christians address Kazakhstan ambassador in support of Grace Church pastor

All-Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christian Baptists (AUC ECB) has supported the 67-y.o. pastor of protestant Grace Church in Astana accused of accused of inflicting severe harm to the health of one of the church’s members. The Union has sent a letter to Kazakhstan Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Ukraine Zautbek Turisbekov, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Dear Mr. Ambassador, AUC ECB is deeply concerned about the situation around pastor Kashkumbayev who was arrested and awaits the court ruling for his religious beliefs. We preach the doctrines similar to the one of pastor Kashkumbayev and this is guaranteed to our church by the Ukrainian Constitution. As you represent Kazakhstan in our country, we kindly ask your help our coreligionist Kashkumbayev get a just decision of the court,” the letter states. Bakhytzhan Kashkymbayev, Pastor of protestant Grace Church was take to the State Psychiatry Center in Almaty for a psychiatric check . The court prolonged his arrest in jail until September 17. The criminal case against the pastor was initiated in October 2012 after severe damage was caused to mental health of Lyazzat Almenova, one of the members of the congregation of Grace mission. After one of the church gatherings the 34-y.o. member of the church from Astana was taken to a psychiatric hospital and was diagnosed with “paranoid schizophrenia with high suicidal risk”. Astana police raided the church and found that the pastor of Grace church offered a red-colored drink causing hallucinations during his services. The Medicines Research Center defined that the drink contained a phenolic substance and hallucinogens causing euphoria and relaxation. Relatives of Lyazzat Almenova were the ones who applied to police over the incident, while the church member herself denies that any damage was caused to her health.
