Religious literature imported into Kazakhstan to undergo check-ups

Religious literature imported to Kazakhstan will have to undergo checking, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the draft law On religious activities and religious institutions that was presented to the lower chamber of Kazakhstan Parliament (Majilis) on September 8. “Religious literature that enters Kazakhstan is sent for theology check-up by customs authorities,” Chairman of Kazakhstan Agency for Religion Kairat Lama Sharif told about the suggested mechanism. “A scientific-research institute was created under our Agency. 30 theology experts work there. We have received social orders for complex theological check-ups with involvement of theology scientists. All the literature of religious content will pass expert evaluation as well.” Lama Sharif noted that the list of all banned and approved religious literature will be available on the Agency’s website.
