Yerzhan Mayamerov has been elected the new Supreme Mufti of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Azan.kz. Kairat Zholdybai and Serik Oraz were elected naib-muftis (first deputies). The reason for resignation of Absattar hajji Derbissali has not been unveiled. It is known that his further activities will be related to scientific and educational work. The decision to elect Yerzhan Mayamerov was made unanimously by the participants of the 7th Kurultai of Kazakhstan Muslims. Hazrat Yerzhan Mayamerov was born on December 16, 1972. Upon completion of the military service in 1972, he entered the School of Shariah and Law of Al-Azhar Islamic University and graduated from it in 2006. In the period from 2006 to 2008 he was an intern at the Fatwas Adoption Department of Egyptian Muslim Spiritual Authority. In 2011 then Supreme Mufti of Kazakhstan sheikh Absattar hajji Derbissali appointed Yerzhan Mayamerov imam of Semei region. Mayamerov is married with three children.
