All mosques in Kazakhstan will be re-registered. Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Agency for Religion told about the draft Law on Religious Activities and Religious Unions today, September 1, Tengrinews.kz reports. “All mosques will be re-registered according to the new draft law that will have many innovations if it is adopted by the Parliament. All the religious unions, including mosques (there is about 2.5 thousand of them), are branches of the Spiritual Management of Muslims of Kazakhstan. The goal is not to close any mosques. The goal is to re-register all the religious unions,” Kairat Lama Sharif said. He noted that preparation of the draft law has been completed and it will be submitted to the Parliament shortly. “There is a destructive tide working against Kazakhstan which propagates extremism. Certainly, the Agency for Religion is working hard to prevent the spread of extremism among people, especially among young people. The Agency for Religion has been created to enhance religious literacy of the country's population and raise awareness of the threat of religious extremism and its diference from the normal religion,” Lama Sharif said.
