Kazakhstan Ambassador to Georgia Yermukhamet Yertysbayev believes it “very important” to develop the transport corridor of the South Caucasus that “has a huge potential”, KazTAG reports. “This (South Caucasus) corridor is strategically important for Central Asian countries and, I can say, is one of the important attributes of its independence. That’s why Kazakhstan will do everything possible to load up this transport corridor,” Yertysbayev said in an interview to Rezonansi newspaper. “In this context I consider it interesting to create a trade-economic block of Kazakhstan Georgia and Azerbaijan, which will be beneficial for each of these countries,” the Ambassador said. According to him, Kazakhstan attaches high priority to development and enhancement of partnership relations with Georgia. “Before my departure President Nursultan Nazarbayev told me that Georgia was an important partner for us and I had to do my best to develop and enhance the relations. Even this alone means a lot,” the diplomat said. Yertysbayev also said that “many things are not as they should be” between the two countries. As an example, he pointed out that “the cargoes turnover between the countries has been lowering over the last 3 years”, while “Kazakhstan is represented by several very large companies in Georgia”. According to Yertysbayev, there was a problem of unprotected investments during the old Georgian government, “which created a serious burden for development of the interstate relations”. The new government of Georgia “has a different approach, which gives a hope that the situation will improve”, the diplomat said. He reminded that the decision was already made on returning KazTransGas-Tbilisi gas-distributing company into Kazakhstan management. The company has been operating under a special management since March 2009.
