The leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France on Wednesday gathered for the start of a peace summit in Minsk aimed at ending 10 months of bloodshed in Ukraine, officials said,AFP reports.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian leader Vladimir Putin sat down for crunch talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French leader Francois Hollande, Ukrainian government spokesman Syatoslav Tsegolko told AFP.
The talks hope to reach an agreement on ending the conflict in east Ukraine, which the West and Ukraine accuse Putin of masterminding and in which over 5,300 people have been killed.
Putin denies Russia's involvement in the conflict pitting pro-Moscow separatists against the forces of Kiev's pro-Western government.
