The United States and Kazakhstan have agreed to cooperate in investigation of criminal cases, Tengrinews reports citing RIA Novosti.

The agreement was signed on Friday by Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the US Bruce Swartz and Attorney General of Kazakhstan Askhat Daulbayev.

The U.S. Department of State stressed that the document was "an important step forward in the development of law enforcement cooperation between the two countries, which is intended to protect law-abiding citizens."

They also noted that the agreement created "an intergovernmental mechanism for providing evidence and other forms of assistance to law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations and related procedures."

In particular, the deal is concerned with questioning of witnesses, provision of documents, identifying the location of people or evidence, implementation of requests for search and detention and transfer of individuals under investigations for interrogation.
