Prime-Ministers of Kazakhstan and Russia, Karim Massimov and Dmitriy Medvedev, have had a telephone conversation to discuss the forthcoming meeting in Moscow, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Kazakh PM.

During the talks, they considered the current issues in the development of the bilateral ties of the two countries, namely in trade and economy. The two PMs also dwelt on the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council scheduled to take place on February 6 in Moscow.

The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council is one of the four bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) that started its work on January 1 of this year along with the introduction of the EEU.

Another three bodies are the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which is the Union’s supreme body consisting of heads of member states, the Eurasian Economic Commission, which is a permanent operating body of the Union, and the Court of the EEU.

As for the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, it consists of the heads of the governments of the member states (Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia). The council is supposed to gather at least twice a year.

The scope of the council’s work includes, but not limited to monitoring the implementation of the EEU Treaty and other treaties of the union, reviewing and suspending the Eurasian Economic Committee decisions, approving the EEU budget.
