The election is scheduled for 2016, but the Assembly proposed to hold them this year.
The initiative has now gained the backing of Kazakhstan's ruling party Nur Otan, a Tengrinews correspondent reports. At today’s briefing at the Central Communications Service's quarters, First Deputy Chairman of Nur Otan Bauyrzhan Baibek commented on the proposal of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
“Nur Otan party, as a leading political force in the country, fully supports the initiative. (...) Backing the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, we consider holding early presidential election a sure solution corresponding to the interests of the country and the people," Baibek voiced the party’s statement.
He noted that the decision was made at a meeting of the political council bureau earlier the same morning.
“Nur Otan party urges all the citizens, all political and social forces to support the initiative of holding the presidential election yearly," Baibek continued.
The representative of Nur Otan also noted that he initiated a meeting of the national coalition of democratic forces. Written requests have already been sent to them. During the meeting, participants will discuss the proposal of the Board of the National Assembly to hold the early presidential election. The meeting is scheduled for February 17 in Astana.
