Nazarbayev discusses cooperation with Asian Development Bank

President Nazarbayev has met with the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Takehiko Nakao discuss future cooperation, Tengrinews reports citing the official website of the president.

The 47th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 2 to 5 May 2014 under the theme The Silk Road: Connecting Asia with Changing World. According to the official website of the ADB, “more than 3,000 delegates, including top policymakers, business leaders, media, intellectuals, civil society and development institution representatives are set to attend the meeting”.

The President of Kazakhstan said that hosting the annual meeting of the ADB was a great privilege.

“This year will mark 20th anniversary of our cooperation with the Asian Development Bank. We have started implementing the Kazakhstan-2050 Strategy and we want to open a new page of cooperation with your bank,” Nazarbayev said.

At the meeting, the President and the head of the ABD discussed key issues in infrastructure development, further reforms in financial and banking sectors and supporting small and middle-sized business. They also discussed future development in international finance.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that cooperation with the Asian Development Bank serves the interests of Kazakhstan. He added that the ADB’s contribution to the diversification of the Kazakhstan’s economy is highly valued.

The ADB President Takehiko Nakao expressed his gratitude to Kazakhstan for hosting the meeting in Astana this year. Nakao added that the ABD had invested $3.5 billion into Kazakhstan during all these years of cooperation.

The President of the Asian Development Bank expressed his readiness to assist with implementation of the Kazakhstan-2050 Strategy in energy, industrial and financial sectors and help with the development of small and middle-sized business.
